Justice, Peace & the Integrity of Creation

Justice, Peace & the Integrity of Creation are words that were first used by the World Council of Churches (WCC) in an appeal to all Christian churches to make public commitments and to undertake common action on threats to life. The phrase JPIC is a way of describing the Christian’s responsibility to make God’s reign visible in the world by bringing Good News to the poor and excluded, exposing oppression and living in solidarity with those on the edges of society.

We commit our energies and resources:

to promote the dignity and liberation of all, especially women and children
to challenge unjust systems and structures
to stand with those on the edges of society
to show reverent care for the earth and all creation

In its commitment to Justice, Peace & the Integrity of Creation, the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary acts in solidarity with other organizations and groups that share similar aims. These include other religious congregations, parish and diocesan organizations, ecumenical groups and other Faith Traditions.

Loretto Maryholme, the winter wonders

What a magical Winter Wonderland we are enjoying in this deep winter season! Storms and vast heaps of snow did not deter our brave guests from travelling to receive rest, serenity and yummy food over several events. Our Advent Retreat once again attracted women of various faiths. See their comments below.

At the UN, we have been occupied with the beginning of the busy UN commission season. The Commission on Social Development was held at the end of January.

UN updates

The winter has been long and cold, albeit with a couple of fantastic weekend snowstorms to bring some excitement. January’s snowstorm saw students moving to online learning and others working from home. In February, students got a proper snow day off from their studies. For both snowstorms, Central Park was filled with families and kids sledding down hills, throwing snowballs, building snowmen, and letting their dogs frolic in the freshness.
