The Congregation of Jesus / Loretto Sisters had its beginnings in Canada in 1847. It is a women’s religious congregation dedicated to serving God by enriching the lives of God’s people through works of education, spirituality and justice. In 2026 it has two sponsored ministries (Loretto Maryholme and Mary Ward Centre), and many other individual ministries.
The Congregation of Jesus is civilly incorporated in Canada under the name “The Loretto Ladies’ Colleges and Schools” and is a registered non-profit charitable organization.
Position: Community Animator – Presentation Manor
Position Summary
The Community Animator provides human, spiritual and administrative support to the Loretto Sisters living at Presentation Manor.
At all times maintains the confidentiality and privacy of Sisters and their information.
Duties and Responsibilities
Human and spiritual support and activities
Human and spiritual centered support: presence to all Loretto Sisters, especially those more isolated or in need of care.
Facilitate prayer and other spiritual opportunities and conversation, as desired.
Support Sisters to do what they can to contribute to community life, but do what is needed so that they are not burdened; support their freedom to choose what they wish to engage in
Receive reports, question or concerns from health care team at Presentation Manor, and CRS and relaying these to Region Leadership.
Facilitate and assist Sisters in keeping connected with family
Welcome involvement of volunteers / Associates, as opportunities arise
Administrative support
Office and admin support, including up-to-date files and security of same
Administering and reconciling Petty Cash fund and taxi vouchers
Ordering and monitoring of health and personal care supplies
Event planning including booking of rooms and food service (e.g. birthdays, funerals, informal gatherings, Region celebrations and meetings)
Support and manage preparation of funerals. Communicate with CJ Region Leader; liaise with funeral parlour, CJ Admin Assistant, the deceased Sister’s family, PM chapel
Communication and Relationships – with:
CJ Region Leader and team especially as regards Sisters, hospitalisation, other treatment
Collaborates with Presentation Manor Health Care Team and Canadian Religious Stewardship (CRS); advocates for care of Sisters as needed
CJ admin and finance offices
Other Duties - as assigned, or as needed.
Authority
Reports to Executive Director and CJ Region Leader
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrate high professional ethics, discretion, and respect for confidentiality
Ability to work in a team and maintain harmonious interpersonal relationships. Demonstrate planning, organizational, and listening skills; act appropriately in stressful situations
An interest in the charism, spirituality, and history of the IBVM/CJ; willingness to learn.
Training in gerontology, end-of-life care, and social and spiritual support is an asset.
Appreciation of and experience in spirituality and pastoral care is an asset.
Some technology skills – basic support for Zoom and/or mobile devices (tablets, smartphones)
Working Conditions
Presentation Manor, 61 Fairfax Crescent, Scarborough ON M1L 1Z7
Monday to Friday - flexible hours; occasional evening/weekend work may be required
Permanent modified position of 22.5 hours / week (i.e. 4.5 hours per day)
Salary Range: $28.21-$31.79 per hour, plus Benefits
Start date: to be negotiated
A criminal background check will be required of the successful applicant.
